FUOYE PRODUCES FIRST FEMALE SUG PRESIDENT
The Federal University Oye Ekiti (FUOYE), Ekiti State, Nigeria has produced first female student President of the university Students’ Union Government (SUG) following a keenly contested union election.

The First Female President-elect, Miss Abiodun Olorunshola Mary of the Food Science and Technology, Faculty of Agriculture, Federal University Oye-Ekiti was the second SUG President to emerge from the department.
The election which was conducted using electronic voting on the University portal started at 12:30 p.m. and ended at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, June 21, 2024.
However, FUOYE News gathered from delegates and party agents that the election was free, fair and credible, while applauding the management team of the university for the great feat.

The new President-elect, Comrade Abiodun Olorunshola Mary polled 5, 046 to defeat Williams Kayode Samuel, who polled 4, 450 in the keenly contested election.
Comrades Olaniyi Israel emerged as Vice-President while Yusuuf Lateef as the SUG General Secretary.
Other winners were Dada Daniel (Assist General Secretary), Aina Temidayo (Treasurer), Lawal Jonathan (Financial Secretary), Owolabi Elizabeth ( Welfare Secretary), Adegboye Emmanuel (Sports Director), Olutoye Daniel (Public Relations Officer), Amaechi Nzubechukwu (Transport Secretary) and Ifabumiyi Joshua ( Social Director).

Speaking shortly after announcing the result, Chairman Independent FUOYESU Electoral Committee (IFEC), who doubles as the Dean of Students, Professor Wasiu Ademola Oyedokun-Alli said the election as conducted by the electoral committee was without hitch as it’s free and fair election.
Professor Oyedokun-Alli said “the positions were duly contested and the committee was fair to all the contestants.”
He, however, lauded the management’s support under the leadership of Professor Abayomi Sunday Fasina, for making resources available for the smooth conduct of the election.

Professor Oyedokun-Alli urged the new Executives to lead by example and carry every member along for the benefit of all.
Also speaking with FUOYE News, Deputy Vice-Chancellor ( Administration), Professor Tajudeen Bolanle Opoola said “first and foremost we thank God on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor of this great university, Prof. Abayomi Sunday Fasina for the successful conduct of this election.”
He went on: “Election particularly the Students Union Government is not an easy one but God made it easy for us.
“We started this election with insinuations around the campus that the Vice-Chancellor had an anointed candidate but thank God that all were present at the election; the agents, Electoral Officers, observers, and the students.
“All agreed that the election has been free, fair and credible with optimal transparency.
“And for the female president that emerged, my prayer is that may the Almighty God sustain her and give her confidence to be able to perform as a credible students’ Union President of the university.
” We thank the Directorate of Corporate Services personnel and everyone present who made sure the election was successful.”

Also, the Student IFEC chairman, Akapo Emmanuel, who spoke with FUOYE News described the election as, one of the best in recent times.
“The election is most credible and fairest elections in the history of this university and I’m so proud to be the IFEC chairman,” Akapo added.
Akapo continued: “The management of this university must be appreciated for providing us ICT facilities and manpower which aided the smooth, free and fair election compared to other schools in Nigeria.
“FUOYE has the best online setup ICT facilities in Nigeria and appreciated the ICT Director, Mr. Durojaye Samson Dare, and his team for their roles in ensuring stable and uninterrupted internet connections in the situation room.”
In her appreciation message, the newly elected SUG President, Comrade Abiodun Olorunsola Mary commended students for electing her to pilot the affairs of the union.
She said: “I feel greatly humbled and deeply thankful to all of you as you elect me as the newly elected SUG President. I will not betray the trust you have in me.
